Create Networks

Networks are isolated trust and address spaces for devices in one Mesh of Things organization. Devices must belong to the same network to communicate directly, even when their firewall rules would otherwise allow the traffic.

Availability

Every organization has a Default network. Check Settings → Billing for current multiple-network availability and limits.

Networks are useful when you want to separate:

  • Development and production fleets
  • Teams within the same organization
  • Customer-specific device groups

Creating a Network

  1. Navigate to Networks in the dashboard.
  2. Click Create network.
  3. Enter a Name for the network. Use a human-friendly name that makes the purpose of the network clear.
  4. Click Create network to save it.

Network names must be unique within the organization. Initialization creates the network's certificate authority and routing assignment, so creation may take a moment.

Assigning Devices

When adding a device, select the network it should join. If you do not choose one, Mesh of Things uses the Default network.

A device's network is fixed when it is provisioned. To move a machine to another network, decommission its current device record, create a replacement in the destination network, and run the new bootstrap command.

Limits and Billing

Network availability, included quantities, device-limit behavior, and possible additional charges depend on the organization's current subscription. Check Settings → Billing before creating a network. When creating a network would add a charge, the dashboard shows the current amount and requires explicit confirmation.

Delete a Network

You can delete a non-default network only when no devices use it. The Default network cannot be deleted.
